Announcing Women For Rubin Reception
You are invited to Join Nilmini Rubin, Kristin Gerlach & the Women For Rubin Host Committee to a reception with Joel on Friday, April 27 from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. To RSVP, visit http://bit.ly/rubin-rsvp, call Chris Robinson at 202-759-2897, or E-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
Women for Rubin is a working-group of women leaders who support the causes that Joel is fighting for - education, the environment, women's rights, jobs, healthcare, transportation, retirement security, ending gun violence, diversity and democracy.
We are also thrilled to receive the endorsement of Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky of Illinois, a long-time fighter for women’s empowerment and the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues.
Congresswoman Schakowsky joins local leaders Mary Flynn, the Mayor of the Town of Chevy Chase, and Cecily Baskir, Council Member of the Town of Chevy Chase in support of Joel’s candidacy.
On the personal side, Joel is the proud father of three young daughters and was raised to be a champion of women’s rights by his mother, Lois, a retired English professor with a specialty in feminist literature. He’s been wonderfully supportive of his wife Nilmini’s career that has a demanding schedule and frequent international travel. Joel’s home is multigenerational as well, as Nilmini’s mother Mithra resides with them to help raise their daughters and further enrich their lives.
Professionally, Joel led the Middle East Women’s Entrepreneurship program at the State Department, he helped train women’s agricultural groups in business development as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica, he won an award for his work as a Senate staffer on military health care that included improvements to military women’s health care, and he’s a frequent mentor of women in the national security and political space.
Joel firmly believes in the equal treatment of women, equal pay and opportunity for women, women’s right to choose, health care including full maternal coverage, paid sick and parental leave, and protection of women against violence including gun control. He will be a steadfast ally to his women colleagues in Annapolis.
