Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09) Endorses Joel Rubin for Maryland Delegate (D-18)
We are pleased to announce that U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL-09), a long-time fighter for progressive values and the co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues, has endorsed Joel for a Maryland General Assembly’s Legislative District 18 Delegate seat. Representative Schakowsky is a fighter in Congress for the same priorities that Joel will fight for in Annapolis, such as high quality public schools, environmental protection, stronger gun control, the expansion of elder care options, effective transportation solutions, unity and diversity, and an economy that works for everyone, not just the wealthy few.
“I have known Joel for more than a decade, from his time as a tireless advocate for Middle East peace to his service at the highest levels of the Obama Administration. Joel is the kind of progressive fighter that Maryland needs right now, as he combines a passion for smart public policy with the skills to make it a reality,” said Rep. Schakowsky. “Joel’s has a strong grasp of the legislative process, validated by his senior level appointment to the Obama Administration as a Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs. And he has his ear to the ground on what’s happening in Maryland, highlighted by his service in local government as an elected Council Member in the Town of Chevy Chase.”
“I have seen Joel fight for progressive policies against a recalcitrant Republican Congress, winning numerous battles while partnering with outside advocates to get the job done. We need voices like Joel’s in elected office at all levels of government, so that we can both advance our progressive agenda and fight back against the backward-looking policies that are being forced on states like Maryland by the Trump Administration.”
“I am so honored by Representative Schakowsky’s support for my race for State Delegate,” said Rubin. “Her leadership in Congress and reputation as a progressive champion for women, working families, and the values of both democracy and decency serve as a model for my candidacy. She has been a mentor and a friend and is a role model for all those progressives who seek elective office. I am grateful to her for her support and look forward to championing in Annapolis the progressive causes that she has championed throughout her career.”
